“Hip hop never started in 1975. This is African tradition that has managed to survive through, thousands of year” Akala track entitled “Reckoner”. This statement echoed through Akala’s Knowledge is power show. With a mix of hip hop performances from Mic Righteous, Logic and of course Akala to the amazing sounds of the live band Asheber and the Afrikan Revolution.
As the venue started to fill up, Mic Righteous got the crowd warmed up with his passion and powerful voice. Then Logic got the crowd moving and shaking as always with his energy. Then it was time for the amazing sounds of Asheber and the Afrikan Revolution. For Akala to add them to the bill really shows the diversity in not only his music but also the crowd. From the moment they started until the time they stopped, the crowd were lost in a trance and their energy filled the packed venue. As Asheber and the Afrikan Revolution finish their act you could feel the passion in the crowd as they waited for the headlining act.
As Akala performed his first track, the room lost control. The passion and energy that Akala put into his show was unbelievable. Akala’s album and tour could not have been better titled “Knowledge is power”. His music has more knowledge in it than a library. He truly represents that fifth element of hip hop, which is knowledge. On the night he performed a mixture of tracks from Knowledge Is Power –Mixtape, vol. 1 and all his previous albums. For all you people that love hip hop, Akala’s shows are one of the best nights of live hip hop so make sure you get to check him out on his next tour!
Knowledge Is Power – Mixtape, vol. 1 is out now so go and get yourself some knowledge.
