This year WeOutHere put a real focus on Hip Hop to acknowledge and celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop. Bringing together a top tier selection of Artists and DJs from across the UK and around the world.

Notable stand outs were DJ Sarah Love, Knucks and on Sunday Louis VI’s incredible performance alongside Blue Lab Beats.

The MainStage Headliner slot on the penultimate night was reserved for a very rare Black Star performance.
Yasiin Bey (Formally Mos Def) and Talib Kweli took to the stage flawlessly dropping cuts from both Black Star albums with the live première of tracks taken from their first album in over 20 years ’No Fear of time’ alongside solo fan favourites from their own classic catalogues.

Yasiin Bey even previewing a dope unreleased alchemist production to a rapturous reception.

Personal highlights for me was singing along to a sublime rendition of ‘Brown Skin Lady’ with my homegirl in the front row and Yasiin’s energetic performance of ‘Case Bey’

The timeless Black star synergy was on full display with every complex lyrical verse delivered to perfection and with the packed crowd of thousands in the palm of their hands singing along to the chorus’s, this was the Black Star show we wanted for decades!

The novelty of seeing Black Star live was not worn off on anyone in attendance. What added to this spectacle was seeing the sun go down mid-performance as WeOutHere Festival descended into darkness Black Star lit up the night sky sending us home fully satisfied and capping off a fantastic weekend of Hip Hop and a wondrous WeOutHere Festival 2023.
