BY THE CULTURE, FOR THE CULTURE — AFRO NATION RETURNS FOR A LANDMARK FESTIVAL ON THE BEACH THIS SUMMER

Turning a corner into 2022 with the summer season in sight, Afro Nation looks ahead to a grand return to Portugal’s coast with another massive lineup announcement today.

The world-renowned R&B entertainer Chris Brown is set to make his long-awaited first appearance at Afro Nation Portugal this July. Currently proving he’s at the top of his game with this month’s new party anthem ‘Iffy’, his set will be celebrating the release of his upcoming 10th studio album ‘Breezy’. The American singer will be bringing all his own hits to the summer stage this year, off the back of recently joining fellow Afro Nation Portugal 2022 headliner Wizkid at The O2 during the Lagos superstar’s 3 night London takeover.

Coming together again on a stacked bill, already boasting two more massive headliners Burna Boy and Megan Thee Stallion, the line up expands today with the welcome addition of the UK’s masked phenomenon Midas The Jagaban, one of 2021’s biggest breakthroughs Pa Salieu, and fast rising London newcomer and Dave collaborator ShaSimone.

Not content with simply returning with a lineup impossible to top, Afro Nation is changing the game again in 2022. With more names to come, and already packed with the planet’s largest electrifying Afrobeats stars like Naira Marley, Rema and Tems, plus the most iconic reggae-dancehall acts like Beenie Man, Koffee and Patoranking, there’s even more in store this year. Always one step ahead and the first to bring new sounds from Africa to the world, Afro Nation Portugal is excited to reveal the most impressive and comprehensive Amapiano line up ever seen before in Europe, or even the world.

Focalistic, Kabza De Small, Major League DJz, DJ Maphorisa and all the artists responsible for the global dance culture bursting out of South Africa — including DBN Gogo, De Mthuda, Juls, Kamo Mphela, Mr Jazziq, Uncle Waffles, Vigro Deep and Young Stunna — will combine to provide the hottest party soundtrack on Praia Da Rocha Beach this summer. South Africa’s underground sound is sweeping the world, and Afro Nation’s the first to celebrate this scene with a huge dedicated stage.

Afro Nation already revolutionised the global festival calendar once before, with its 2019 debut praised across the board as a landmark moment for Black culture — uniting the diaspora for one unforgettable celebration in one of the most picturesque locations in Europe.

Nobody could have predicted that the wait would be two years until we could unite once again in the glow of Afro Nation, but this year’s inspired plan of paring the Algarve’s balmy beaches with Amapiano’s soulful, percussive and pulsating grooves is set to more than make it up with a multitude of memorable and iconic moments. By the culture, for the culture, Afro Nation is an event that means more than the music alone, and stands as an essential date in the diary that simply can’t be beaten.
