REVIEW | JERU THE DAMAJA LIVE AT THE JAZZ CAFE LONDON

As we enter 2024, 90s Hip Hop heavyweight Jeru The Damaja kicked off the year with a solid display of quality Hip Hop to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his debut LP, “The Sun Rises In the East.”

Having personally seen Jeru perform live many times throughout the years, I noticed that this time around he sounded really relaxed and comfortable in his elder statesman role.

After previewing exclusive cuts from his upcoming profanity-free album, he flawlessly dove back into the realm of superior NY Hip Hop emcee.

Jeru had the crowd in the palm of his hands with numerous comedic interludes.

Jeru’s DJ, Sensi, kept the cuts on point throughout the show while Jeru shouted out a number of UK Hip Hop legends in the building, such as Jonzi D and Billy Spliff.

The crowd was well-fed with a solid 90-minute set and sent everyone in attendance home happy with classic cuts such as “Ya Playin’ Yaself,” “Da Bitchez,” and “Come Clean.”
