REVIEW | MASTA ACE AND MARCO POLO SELL-OUT EVENT AT THE JAZZ CAFE, LONDON

On Monday 27th February, 56 year old Masta Ace, who first appeared on the 1988 legendary Juice crew Posse cut “The Symphony” graced the Jazz Café stage alongside the great DJ/Producer Marco Polo.

The reason I mentioned Masta Ace’s first appearance on record and his age is because it is so astonishing to see an artist this far into their career seem to get better and better with each show.

Masta Ace delivers on so many levels not simply relying on his classic catalog to get him through a set. This was a Hip Hop live set perfected.

His stage presence was masterfully controlling his sold out audience with constant interaction throughout keeping anyone who might not be familiar with all the songs engaged.

This wasn’t a cut and paste performance either as Ace included a tribute to our recently transitioned hero Trugoy the Dove (from De La Soul) when we were asked to throw up a closed peace sign as a symbol for Plug Two.

After being thoroughly rocked for 90 minutes, Masta Ace closed with the classic 9th Wonder Production of “Good Old Love” before leaving us with the promise of a new Marco Polo produced Album coming soon in 2023!

Another Masterclass from Masta Ace and Marco Polo.
