Poetry From Lucy Webster

This week we feature poetry from eighteen year old student and activist Lucy Webster, an exciting new voice in the poetry community. Aside from being a great writer, Lucy is also working to improve access to voting booths so more people can have their voices heard. To hear more of her work, both in writing and in politics, check out Lucy’s blog at http://topicalcreativity.blogspot.co.uk

Yes, You

Who do you think you are
to pummel me like rolled pastry
and to flatten me into forgiving?

To bake me so brittle that I crumble
into insignificance you can sweep up
as you gaze dumbly at the TV.

I will rise like you have never risen
taller prouder – better.
You wouldn’t believe what I can do.

What do you take me for?
I am not to be taken.
