NEW MUSIC | WHODAT SPARES NO FEELINGS ON HIS INDEPENDENT RELEASE ‘SYM’ OUT NOW ON ALL PLATFORMS

WhoD­at arrives with his debut single ‘SYM’, a track that is more of a state­ment than just a rap song. The whole eth­os of the brand and the music is qual­ity,  authen­ti­city, and cre­at­ive free­dom. The lib­er­a­tion gained by express­ing authen­tic­ally through music are what fuels his desire to cre­ate his style of art.

As a well seasoned artist who can truly claim the title ‘stu­dent of the game’, the pas­sion for what he does becomes appar­ent for any listen­er with a love for words and the art form we know as hip hop.

Although Hip Hop may not be one of the more prom­in­ent genres in the UK spe­cific­ally, WhoD­at sees a much lar­ger scope as far as his mind­set goes. With goals that entail tar­get­ing and cre­at­ing a niche audi­ence through his unique­ness and being focused on places like Europe and Asia, where hip hop is lar­ger than ever, the path ahead is clear.

‘SYM’ focuses primar­ily on being the per­fect intro­duct­ory song, boast­ing not only slick lyr­ic­al abil­ity and deliv­ery over an almost eer­ie piano sample, but the state­ment that there’s a place for the artist among any heavy­weight world renowned MC regard­less of loc­a­tion on the world map. WhoD­at seems to have mastered the art of con­vey­ing his feel­ings in rap form on this rugged, stand out, up tempo single as well as show­cas­ing his song­writ­ing ability.

The track sees WhoD­at join­ing forces with UK pro­du­cer and friend, Free­man Car­ring­ton, who’s worked with hip hop roy­alty such as Wu-Tang amongst oth­ers. With a pas­sion for sampling, Free­man has a tal­ent to pro­duce songs that nev­er seem out­dated whilst stick­ing to the ele­ments of hip hop. A gritty piano loop with an almost cheeky skip to the drum pat­tern com­pli­ments WhoD­at’s char­ac­ter and makes the pro­duc­tion seem tail­or made.

About WhoDat
Spend­ing over a dec­ade hon­ing his craft, WhoD­at ven­tured into the realm of becom­ing a solo artist after pre­vi­ously being part of a group and going by a dif­fer­ent name. Feel­ing fully unlocked and able to unapo­lo­get­ic­ally express his deep­est and most per­son­al feel­ings, it has breathed life into his craft in a way that he spent his years before chasing.
Born from par­ents of Carib­bean des­cent, he uses their coun­try’s nat­ive flags to cov­er his iden­tity. ’ ”It’s not about my appear­ance. It’s about the music” is the idea, as he feels people can get too caught up in image which can over­shad­ow the art. ‘The first thing you see when you com­mu­nic­ate with a per­son is their face. A simple facial expres­sion can change how you feel towards someone. If the face is hid­den, all that’s left to judge is the art’.

Hav­ing partnered with inde­pend­ent record label RapX­change, WhoD­at has been using their facil­it­ies to record his first album as a solo artist entitled ‘Not For Kids’. The album title, cov­er art­work, and debut single make his inten­tions quite clear. The music is not for the eas­ily offended.
Work­ing on com­pil­a­tions with oth­er artists on the label, the no holds barred approach remains appar­ent on every song with a WhoD­at feature.
Man­aging to work on the first com­pil­a­tion dur­ing the begin­ning of the glob­al pan­dem­ic, the label put togeth­er and released a body of work entitled ‘Lock­down: 1st Wave’. The label plans to release “2nd Wave” and are in the pro­cess of mix­ing down the pro­ject. Part 1 can be found now on all stream­ing platforms.
