MADE BY MAGICMadeByMa­gic is stand­ing at the fore­front of a new wave of UK rap and altern­at­ive hip-hop, pion­eer­ing a vital new sound that’s set to dom­in­ate the air­waves in 2019. Pump­ing out radio-ready bangers that bump with the smooth melodi­cism of R&B, the dynam­ic energy of gar­age and the in-your-face atti­tude of grime, MadeByMa­gic syn­thes­ises his broad spec­trum of influ­ences to pro­duce some­thing entirely unique and utterly magical.

 

Grow­ing up listen­ing to ‘90s pop, obscure reg­gae and Afric­an poly­rhythms, MadeByMa­gic – or Magic as he’s often known – was an early adher­ent of music­al eclecticism, and you can hear it in his var­ied sound that veers freely between styles and genres without any regards to con­ven­tion. Through­out his teen years, Magic soaked up the sounds of his East Lon­don envir­on­ment, tak­ing inspir­a­tion from grime titans Wiley and Mani­ac while look­ing across the Atlantic to The Nep­tunes, Kanye West and Tim­ba­l­and for cre­at­ive stimulation.

 

In explor­ing the evol­u­tion of these music­al pion­eers, Magic found that des­pite their shared roots in urb­an, hip-hop and R&B, each artist found a way of express­ing the unique voice and spir­it that set them apart from their peers: this is a qual­ity that Magic con­tin­ues to emu­late, stamp­ing his trade­mark sound on every melody, verse and track he writes and records.

Magic’s pas­sion for music was born in school: he played in the Steel Band while listen­ing to grime at home, lay­ing down the found­a­tions of the syn­thes­is between raw, urb­an sounds and excep­tion­al music­al­ity that would later exem­pli­fy his con­tem­por­ary pro­duc­tions. After devel­op­ing his song-writ­ing skills and train­ing an ear for melody, Magic co-foun­ded his first group, HiDef, an act that would go on to per­form at the Indigo O2 and BT Lon­don Live. Later step­ping out as a solo artist, Magic shared sev­er­al pre-releases on stream­ing ser­vices that have seen him dubbed as one of the most ori­gin­al, music­ally com­pet­ent, nat­ur­al tal­ents encountered, cul­min­at­ing in his latest effort and most vis­ion­ary work to date: the 2019 sum­mer anthem “Stress In The Clouds”.

Built on top of an explos­ive beat that cycles between the dynam­ic bounce of UKG and the laid-back haze of trap, “Stress InThe Clouds” is a cer­ti­fied banger with a mes­sage of affirm­a­tion and self-care. Urging listen­ers to escape stress and anxi­ety in any way they can, Magic offers up wis­dom and advice: escape through your ima­gin­a­tion and leave your stress in the clouds, take a flight some­where far away from your prob­lems and just lay back.

 

Back­ing up Magic’s effort­less vocal per­form­ance with pol­ished pro­duc­tion and a bump­ing bass­line that’s cer­tain to des­troy dance­floors and dom­in­ate radio dur­ing sum­mer 2019, “Stress In The Clouds” pulls togeth­er raw energy, pure momentum and feel-good vibes to pro­duce one of the year’s most anthem­ic and uplift­ing singles. Released in advance of his upcom­ing EP, the track sets the stage for an excep­tion­al tal­ent to take his right­ful place at the top of the glob­al music scene.
