REVIEW | TALIB KWELI CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF HIP-HOP AT THE JAZZ CAFE LONDON

Legendary Hip Hop Emcee Talib Kweli returned to a sold out Jazz Café alongside DJ Spintelect to deliver exactly what you would expect from Talib Kweli live show.

A flawless lyrical masterclass featuring some underground Hip Hop Classics for you too rap along with and reminisce over a more simplistic time before TIKTOK and A.I. Where a Hip Hop crowd consisted of folks who would come to a show to get rocked for two hours and there wouldn’t be a single phone out.

Tonight I looked around to see a few familiar faces and some faces I was genuinely shocked to see like the SugarHill Gang and the Furious 5 who happened to be in town for the night.

With this being the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop, Talib didn’t hesitate to invite the Hip Hop Icons onstage to run through a montage of Classic cuts like ‘Rappers Delight’, ‘The Message’ and ‘White Lines’
For me personally this was the first time in my Hip Hop Life that I got to see these classics performed live so it was definitely a Hip Hop checklist moment.

Kweli hit us with some with some new cuts taken from his latest album with Madlib ‘Liberation 2’ and the recent Blackstar album ‘No Fear Of Time’ (Also seen here)before running through classic cuts from the Reflection Eternal and his various solo albums.
Talib also took time out to share his thoughts on recent controversies before sending the crowd home happy with performances of ‘Get By’ ‘The Blast’ and ‘I Try’ This was another masterful Talib Kweli Jazz Cafè performance which is up there with some of the very best he’s delivered over the last Twenty plus years.
