Friday 18th May

Rich Mix London

Ashley Henry is one of a small crop of acts leading the way in the current resurgence of UK jazz and this performance at Rich Mix on the 18th May marks his first headline show since signing to Sony Music. Henry’s major label debut – the Easter EP – was released in January 2018 and drew widespread acclaim for its unique blend of jazz, hip-hop, R&B and punk. This show comes ahead of the highly-anticipated release of his first full studio album later on this year.

At 26 years, Ashley Henry is the UK’s leading-light pianist from south London – one of a new generation of jazz musicians raised with a wide range of influences; clearly influenced by hip hop and sounds who have their roots firmly in jazz – his listening and visual styles range from Sinead Harnett and Digital Underground to ZuZu and Margot Fonteyn.

Heading up last year’s ‘Best Live Experience’, ‘Emerging’ and ‘Breakthrough Artist’ lists for Fader Magazine and Jazz FM, and holding the chair for the Outlook Orchestra, this is his first headline event since signing with Sony Music.

His work with the likes of the award-winning hip hop group The Mouse Outfit and as creator of the London Milestones Series has led him to be the in demand artist by some of America’s leading jazz artists.   Henry presents his live performance in this intimate setting before releasing his first full album next year.

Opening set comes from Anoushka Lucas - described as a ‘rich, natural talent’ by Neil Cowley, she has sold out nights at Bush Hall and featured at the Love Supreme Festival with her warm and magnetic stage shows.

She has been recording her debut album with Martin Terefe at Kensaltown Studios and her first single from this album — ‘Dark Soul’ — was released as a single in September 2017 with its first performance came on Radio 2’s BBC Introducing courtesy of an invitation from Jamie Cullum. A second single ‘Water Under The Bridge’ was released in February 2018.

Support is from upcoming singer, writer and composer Anoushka Lucas, whose magnetic stage presence has seen her sell out shows at Pizza Express Jazz Club and Bush Hall.
