UK music artist Hodago released the highly anticipated official music video for his debut single “No Slave”.
“No Slave” speaks to ideas around tyranny, revolution, and identity politics. Writing the song was deeply personal for Hodago, who lives in London as a half white and half black immigrant and spent his childhood battling racism and discrimination in a racially charged post-Apartheid South Africa.
So it’s only fitting that Hodago has chosen to release the official music video for “No Slave” on World Human Rights Day.
“The ‘No Slave’ music video is my introduction into the world, the opportunity to really showcase who I am and why I became an artist, This video is my truth and my trauma and fully expresses the struggles I’ve had growing up in an extremely hostile and racially tense environment. Moving to the U.K. at 18 was my opportunity to start a new life and redefine who I wanted to be. Today that person is Hodago.”
