The Grandmaster Flash (@DJFlash4eva) Collection – Track By Track

Have you ever wondered why DJ’s pick certain songs to play? What story they create in their minds or how a certain song makes them feel when they play a song?

One of the biggest and greatest hip-hop DJ’s Grandmaster flash has recently released a compilation album and has given a track by track review of why he plays certain songs. The album features songs from legends such as Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, the Sugar Hill Gang, Eric B and Rakim and a host of  more classic hip-hop tracks from some of the greats.

Grandmaster Flash does a track by track selection on Afrika Bambaataa – Planet Rock, Nas – The World Is Yours, Rob Base & DJ ez Rock – It Takes Two, Eminem – Lose Yourself, A Tribe Called Quest – Can I Kick It.

Flash is the third legendary DJ selected for the new compilation ‘Collection’ album range. It’s interesting to see what makes Flash tic as a DJ when it comes to selecting music to play. For many of us it seems like a simple task, but from this short video you can tell that he does delve deep into his thoughts when listening to a hip-hop track. His thoughts on Nas’ “The World Is Yours” is evident that he is more than a DJ but a music connoisseur. By talking about the sample being influence by Jazz, yet being able to stand on it’s own on a hip-hop dance floor is an incredible insight to how DJ’s view the tracks they pick.

For many DJ’s Grandmaster Flash is someone to greatly learn from because of his knowledge and outlook on hip-hop as a culture.
