ON RECORD presented their creative response to Punk Culture artist Lucy McKenzie’s TATE exhibition with GRIME > PUNK – a 1‑day event that focused on how Grime is Punk for this new generation.
With a mix of panels, live music, art, photography and fashion workshops, the event will reflected on Grime as the new Punk was a discussion on which had the most enduring impact on music and culture.
The event included a discussion on how GRIME developed as the biggest music culture movement since Punk and how it has had arguably a bigger influence. Participants included journalist Hyperfrank, artists Manga Saint Hilare & Koj, designer, artist and LJMU BA Fashion Programme leader, Andrew Ibi and DJ G33. The discussion was moderated by Dr Lennon Mhishi.
The event will closed with a Grime / Punk mashup set by DJ G33 and performances by local Grime artists Koj and Pelumi (P3LZ) and special guests Roll Deep’s Manga and Birmingham’s Dapz on the Map. Afterwards, there was a special Late at Tate, featuring sets by DJ 2Kind, and G33.
