Memories
We all have them,
Some are painful,
Others please,
It’s amazing,
How they are stored,
Within,
The logical,
But sometimes,
The rational brain.
Memories,
We all hold on to them,
For with a diverse,
Collection,
They give us hope,
In times of distress,
I should know,
For I have not,
Only lived,
But also suffered,
Life’s cruelty.
Memories,
Can be evocative,
And powerful,
Drive us crazy,
Or make us stoical,
They add up,
To make a collage,
Of one’s individual,
Tour de force,
Without them,
We become,
A shadow of our former selves,
As can be seen,
With dementia,
Or Alzheimers,
If you ask me,
Such cruel illnesses,
Which effect the brain,
Cause families so much pain,
For the lights are on,
But no one is there,
The human form,
Sat in a chair,
In a sense,
Full of despair,
For the memories,
Are no longer there.
