UK based hip hop act The Scribes are pleased to announce the release of their new EP “The Totem Trilogy Part 1”, a 5 track project made in collaboration with Chicago raised producer Astro Snare. The record and accompanying music video are due for release through Quill Equipped Records as a limited edition CD and on all digital formats and streaming services on April 13th.
“The Totem Trilogy Part 1” features the impeccable production of Astro Snare at it’s very best, covering a wide range of influences and styles across the 5 tracks while always remaining true to the golden age hip hop boom bap roots of the project. From the reggae-tinted brass and subs of “Mighty Mighty”, to the contemplative piano chops and soaring strings of “Heart Breaks”, Astro Snare has provided a compelling and complex soundscape for the listener to escape into.
The release also showcases the Oxford based producer’s trademark electro funk boom bap sound, with certified bangers “Rock This Part 2”, “Keep Bouncing” and “I’m Back” guaranteed to get hip hop heads nodding and crowds moving.
On mic duties multi-award winning lyricists The Scribes go hard, lacing each track with their unique brand of flawless flows and packing every beat with razor sharp raps full of wit and originality. Equally at home dropping introspective musings or breakneck bars of pure fire, the duo of Ill Literate & Jonny Steele seamlessly combine to bring the raw, energetic vocal that has seen them become festival favourites across the UK and beyond.
“The Totem Trilogy Part 1” is the first of a 3 EP series featuring the stunning artwork of renowned illustrator Chris Malbon. The absolutely gorgeous cover designs of the 3 EPs will link together to form one image of the titular totem.
With guest vocals from both AstroSnare himself and founding father of the UK hip hop scene MC Duke, this is a release that simply cannot be slept on and is a sign of huge things to come for The Scribes.
