In this polit­ic­ally charged time, FOR­EIGN BEG­GARS call for a ‘MAT­RI­ARCHY’ with their final album. After announ­cing they are to split at the start of 2020, the album (pro­duced by Seemore Beats) sees the sem­in­al electronic/rap crew revis­it a more hip hop-driv­en sound, hark­ing back to the sounds and inspir­a­tion of their early days.

“Mat­ri­archy rep­res­ents an energy/paradigm shift that we feel the world needs — mov­ing away from the Pat­ri­archy and the com­bat­ive, tox­ic mas­culin­ity that has shaped soci­ety for gen­er­a­tions. We wor­ship greed, fin­an­cial suc­cess, plagued with viol­ence and lack empathy which are at the core of many of the world’s ills. The fem­in­ine energy also rep­res­ents the nur­tur­ing of the self both phys­ic­ally and men­tally and is a step in the dir­ec­tion of nature that so many of us are now com­pletely dis­con­nec­ted from.”

 Since their form­a­tion in 2002, multi-genre UK trio For­eign Beg­gars’ unique tra­ject­ory has seen them evolve from under­ground hip hop her­oes to a trail­blaz­ing elec­tron­ic cros­sov­er act. Hav­ing already announced they are to part ways at the end of this year, they are set to drop their final album, act­ing as a part­ing gift to their loy­al fan base and mark­ing the end of an incred­ible 18 year run.

On 13th Decem­ber they release ‘Mat­ri­archy’ (both digit­ally and on vinyl) — a twelve track album pro­duced by Seemore Beats which sees the col­lect­ive revis­it a more hip hop-driv­en sound, hark­ing back to the sounds and inspir­a­tion of their early days. This nos­tal­gic mix of altern­at­ive street anthems, boasts bars which truly cel­eb­rate UK street cul­ture whilst deliv­er­ing impec­cable for­ward look­ing elec­tron­ic pro­duc­tions that they are already famed for.  On the mic they’re joined by a host of fea­tured artists includ­ing; Mav­er­ick Sabre, Blak Twang, Jam­mer, Flowdan, Green­tea Peng and Liam Bailey.

Hav­ing always embraced their own dif­fer­ent music­al influ­ences and back­grounds, it’s this unique approach which helped set them apart from their con­tem­por­ar­ies. It hasn’t always been easy work­ing this way but the col­lab­or­a­tion of these sep­ar­ate ener­gies and vis­ion is what has made the group what it is. Speak­ing of the split and forth­com­ing album, Pav aka Ori­fice Vul­gat­ron, explains further:

“We simply reached a point where we wanted embrace unbridled explor­a­tion of our indi­vidu­al solo jour­neys and tell our stor­ies as solo artists. Hav­ing known Toby and Ed (Seemore Beats) for nearly 25 years now, we’ve always crossed paths music­ally and their pro­duc­tion really touched some­thing in me that opened the floodgates for some real heart on the sleeve expression.”

 “It also felt import­ant and nat­ur­al to express the mes­sages and exper­i­ences on the type of hip hop beats that pro­pelled us into exist­ence and are truly rep­res­ent­a­tion of our era of music. When we star­ted the album it had­n’t inten­ded to be the last album but that’s the way things tran­spired so it added more emo­tion­al grav­ity to the cre­at­ive process.”

Dur­ing their crit­ic­ally acclaimed career, the col­lect­ive (Ori­fice Vul­gat­ron, Dag Nab­bit, DJ Nonames and Met­ro­pol­is) have built a repu­ta­tion as one of the UK’s most ver­sat­ile, cre­at­ive and pro­lif­ic acts — with a Top Ten Hit, over 80 mil­lion You­Tube plays and a string of inter­na­tion­al head­line dates to their name.

They have released sev­en stu­dio albums to date, with their last being 2018’s ‘2 2 KARMA Deluxe’ which fea­tured col­labs with Rag’n’Bone Man, Kate Tem­pest, OG Maco, Kojey Rad­ic­al, Flux Pavil­ion, Alix Perez and lots more.  The record was cham­pioned by Bill­board, Mixmag, Fact and DJ Mag with radio sup­port from DJ Tar­get, Mis­ta­jam, Annie Night­in­gale, Tom Ravenscroft and Julie Adenuga. High­lights on the road include sets at Gla­ston­bury, Exit, Out­look, iTunes Fest­iv­al, Field Day, SW4, Love­box, head­line shows at O2 Brix­ton Academy and so much more.

As For­eign Beg­gars look to wrap up the year in style, they look for­ward to new pro­jects whilst look­ing back with this con­tem­plat­ive and nos­tal­gia driv­en album.
