POETRY | ‘BLACK LIVES MATTER’ BY KATIE LOUISE (KLASTRO)

Centuries of slavery and oppression,
Recent deaths brought to righteous eruption
Volcanic voices of true justice no longer silenced,
Police brutality incidences slash racial violence.

Being muted or muzzled is over now,
Ploughed far right riots causing chaos, how can this be allowed?
Amongst initally peaceful protests
Industries and institutions becoming more vocal, in this complex web of mess.

A real shift must occur whilst mixed emotions, Supportive in this strengthened message towards sustained action
Instead of further marginalisation, trauma and hurt
Social media documented and alerted,
Racist prominent figures brought down
So no longer historical statues can seem as crowned.

Fired pained energy vented, with streaming tears lamented
Difficult to navigate such depth of systemic racism,
Only by educating with clout, our generations about their ancestors
Discrimination and xenophobia creating such displaced deep chasms,
This will all become history of beyond much importance.
