Unit 137 are a collective of progressive artists drawn together by a shared passion for conscious, forward thinking music. Based in SE London (Lewisham), Unit 137 have operated successfully as a record label, sound system, recording studio and event production crew since 2012.The collective have been defining their sound over the last five years, powering and performing at major events and festivals throughout the UK, including Boomtown Fair (Tangled Roots — Main Stage). They have made notable waves via their record label with tracks such as Pressure by Hylu & Jago feat. Kosher, a huge release championed by Congo Natty, and the first single from Unit 137 Vol. 1.

Unit 137 Vol. 1 is their debut album, featuring twelve original tracks from the crew and extended family, including Serocee, Jimmy Screech and RTKal, to name a few. This is the first time all the artists go back to back on one release and the result is a fiery body of work that swerves through reggae, dub, hip-hop, dancehall and jungle effortlessly.

Rolling bass lines, flecked with sparks of brass and bouncing percussion dominate the album. Heavyweight production from Ed West, Hylu & Sleepy Time Ghost, alongside the lyrical stylings of Jago, Kosher, Deemas J, Zico and Galak Spiritual, offer a low end feast, showcasing the fresh energy of new wave UK Sound System culture. For the roots heads, the ravers, the old skool, the new skool, there is something here for everyone.

Unit 137 have built their sound over time, on respect, creativity and experimentation; making their much anticipated first album one worth the wait.

Check out the video below for ‘Hidden Track’, fresh from the album. Delve into the minds of the Unit 137 crew. Hylu conducts the 137 Allstars through a maze of scenarios, inspired by the artists that dwell in them.
