The other week I caught up with London based producer and rapper JWhy in Camden. JWhy’s debut EP The Writing Time has just dropped and so has the video for the lead single off the EP ‘Where Do You Want To Go’. The new EP has an ambient feel reminiscent of the early 90’s hip hop sound of A Tribe Called Quest or De La Soul. This EP is definitely one for the smokers out there and those suffering from either 90’s hip hop nostalgia or summertime sadness.

It’s early days for JWhy but he is clearly enamoured with the process of making music for music’s sake. His love for music making is exemplified in the eponymous track Writing Time where he spits over a minimalistic guitar loops about the creative writing process. Recently his music has been played on BBC Radio 6 & the response so far has been very positive. Just like his title track Where Do You Want To Go, I Am Hip Hop predicts JWhy is going to go far.
