Universal is delighted to unveil the official trailer for Hamlet, a daring and electrifying reimagining of William Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy, starring Riz Ahmed (Academy Award winner — The Long Goodbye) in the iconic title role.  The film is directed by Aneil Karia (Academy Award winner — The Long Goodbye) and also stars Morfydd Clark (BAFTA winner — Saint Maude), Joe Alwyn, Sheeba Chadha, Avijit Dutt with Art Malik (BAFTA nominee — The Jewel in the Crown) and Timothy Spall (BAFTA winner — The Sixth Commandment).

A contemporary adaptation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet set in a wealthy British South-Asian family. Hamlet returns home for his father’s funeral and is shocked to learn that his uncle Claudius will now marry his widowed mother. When his father’s ghost reveals that Claudius murdered him, Hamlet becomes consumed by revenge, questioning the corruption at the heart of the family’s business, and his own sanity.Riz Ahmed delivers a raw, urgent performance, bringing razor-sharp intelligence and emotional force to one of theatre’s most demanding roles. This contemporary staging explores power, paranoia and moral responsibility, making Shakespeare’s tragedy feel fiercely immediate and resonant.

Aneil Karia’s Hamlet blends classical language with modern design to create a tense, immersive experience for a new generation.
