OUT NOW
Somerset based rapper Chiron Loxton drops his brand new album ‘Mixed Emotions’. This is the third album to come from the rising rapper, showcasing his versatility and skills as an artist.
We catch up with him to find out more.
For those who have not heard of you, tell us a bit about how you started in rap?
I was always making beats throughout the school period of my life and took an interest in creative writing & spoken word. As I grew into my confidence, I decided to take this passion further and focus more on establishing myself as a music artist. HipHop/Rap music, I felt like I could vent and channel more ideas through lyrics with this genre.
Congrats on album number 3! ‘Mixed Emotions’ is 24 tracks of fire! How long did it take you to put together?
‘Mixed Emotions’ has taken me about 2 years to put together. With making connections from my previous album ‘Out In The Trees’, it did end up becoming a much bigger project than expected which was a pleasant surprise to me!
The album is extremely experimental, how important is it for you to be versatile when it comes to production and experimenting with different genres?
I think it is very important to stay unpredictable and try new areas to see if there might be a style of beat that you never would have originally thought about. I always find it pretty fun to try and find a flow on different BPMs to see if I can make an impact on the track. I love travelling and experiencing different cultures, which I think makes me quite open to trying out a few different genres whilst maintaining my own artistic style.
Are there any tracks on the album that are particularly close to your heart? Which ones and why?
‘Reflective Practice’ is pretty close to me as I really enjoy trying to voice my perspective on topics in a poetic way. The samples on this piece are from close friends and people I have encountered on my travels so I personally find it quite warming to hear a familiar voice on the track. ‘Someone’ & ‘Take It Easy’ contain a lot of happy memories for me which is cool to reminisce back on whenever they come on. ‘I’m With Everything’ was one of my first tracks I recorded on this album, and it was exciting to have IAM3AM featured on another song off the success of our previous work on ‘Out In The Trees (Wish Me Well)’.
You have some great Global collabs on the album, how did these come about?
By working with some of the producers on my previous album, I managed to make connections that would end up on this new project. A lot of my music influence is from America so I thought I would try and combine UK & USA artist styles together. From travelling around Europe, I discovered a few producers who made more dance type beats and I wanted to reference their styles with my project as I also like listening to this genre.
Tell us a bit about your songwriting process, where do you get your inspiration?
I do get a lot of my inspiration from travelling and meeting new people. I like to recollect memories and paint visual pictures for the listener. Whenever I would like to be more reflective on the track, I would always go towards my favourite rappers and a few bands to read into their lyrical content.
What do you want listeners to take away from ‘Mixed Emotions’?
I would like listeners to take away that we all experience ups and downs throughout life’s journey and it’s up to us to embrace these and connect with as many people as we feel necessary to improve ourselves as an individual. Mixed Emotions is a project expressing human behavior at various emotional levels. From letting go of everything and allowing the night to run wild, to sitting on a beach in the evening glow reflecting on your character.
What have you got coming up?
I’ll always be working on singles, but my main aim next is to focus on my live show capabilities and get myself booked into gigs to showcase this album to a live audience and see what sort of feedback I can get from it! I would love to get myself into some slots at festivals as this setting was the initial spark for me to pursue music.
