SHANTÉH, the artist, songwriter and producer from South London is no stranger to the music industry. Having provided vocals for stars such as Emeli Sandé, Jahméne Douglas and Ann Nesby, she now gears up to release her new LP ‘I.D’ dropping on 6th October.
The album is a sonic culmination of everything that has inspired her to be who she is today as a musician. From the dancehall-inspired vocals on the high octane single ‘No Ceilings’ to the reggae stylings of ‘Good Thing’, the love of her Jamaican roots is clear throughout. She also draws on her time singing in a gospel choir with the lush arrangements and soaring harmonies heard on the album opener ‘Black Nectar’.
On the album she says, “it is the beautiful creation that came out of my journey. It’s about my roots and culture, my heritage, my faith, my confidence, my city and my art, all tied together by the love of my friends and family.”
Music runs in Shantéh’s blood. Her grandpa and his brother were part of sound systems in Jamaica, her mother was a drummer and now a radio DJ, and her younger sisters are both musicians. This highly musical environment has shaped her sound, culminating in four EPs and the aptly titled ‘I.D’ — an audible timeline of how her sound became what it is.
