Producer of the moment icekream has announced the release of his latest single, “Real Rap”. A collaboration with NYC-based rapper Prayah, the track is the third in a series of heated single releases that began in January with “What it Be”.
“Real Rap” is undoubtedly icekream’s most gritty and raw release to date, as the producer subtly shapes his sound to suit the vocal stylings of Prayah. Representing East Brooklyn, the rapper’s guttural tones and brute-force flows recall legendary MCs such as Biggie Smalls, Shine and MF Doom, while his thoughtful lyricism places him in a league of his own.
icekream and Prayah linked up through social media, as the producer sent through beats for the rapper to spit over in the studio. The result is “Real Rap”, a potent example of the sparks that can fly when next-level production meets authentic talent on the mic. icekream’s menacing beat provides the perfect foil for Prayah’s rhymes, as minor-key vocal samples, skittering hi-hats and weighty sub bass come together to create a vibe that’s dark, moody and unmistakably real. There’s no doubt that with “Real Rap”, icekream and Prayah achieve their promise of bringing “it back to that real rap.”
“Real Rap is a showcase for Prayah, the New York voice that has been missing from the hip hop game.”- icekream on “Real Rap”
icekream is an internationally recognised producer, musician and label head. Born and raised in Paris, France, he drew influence from the local music scenes while looking further afield for for inspirations that shaped his sound. Artists and producers as diverse as Fatboy Slim, Jamiroquai, DJ Premier and The Neptunes compelled him to envision a distinct musical personality and a sound of his own.
Prayah is one of America’s finest contemporary rappers. Pushing through struggles since birth, he spent his childhood immersed in the world of Jay‑Z, Lord Finesse and Biggie, until he recognised his own talents and began working with Ron Browz, a former Nas collaborator who worked with Prayah to develop his sound. After an Instagram freestyle drew the attention of none other than Busta Rhymes, Prayah was signed to the legendary hip-hop artist’s label and gained nationwide recognition through the Ron Browz-produced single “Bad Man Ting” and a series of explosive remixes. Prayah is currently working toward the release of his debut EP.
icekream’s latest track is the third single to be released on Kream Kingdom, a record label headed up by the man himself. “Real Rap” is the third in a string of collaborative singles released throughout early 2021, following “What it Be” and “Runners Pace”.
“Real Rap” is out now on Kream Kingdom.
