Toronto-based artist Keynes Woods returns with new single ‘Tim Burt’, the second drop in the run up to his long-awaited EP ‘Kongo Kane’.
Keynes has been celebrated for his experimental voice and playful aesthetics since the start of his musical career but it wasn’t until his epic performance in the COLORS box early last year where he was launched into the spotlight.
To stoke the fires for what is to be an exciting 2020 for the ascending Congolese alternative rapper, late 2019 saw Keynes release what he calls a “warm” up with his energetic single ‘Spiritual Healing’ — a confident track laced with trap-infused drum patterns and eerie piano flourishes, featuring the rising collective of Canadian artists.
’Tim Burt’, the signature single from the project drops next Friday followed by a music video shortly after. The track is about giving credit where credits due — Keynes wants to shout out all the people it takes to put music out. “A lot of artists get props for the numbers on the board, but other areas of their game are ignored”, he uses this clever metaphor to reflect on his background as an athlete and ball-player and transfer it to music. He wants to celebrate the well-rounded trench workers that may not get as much love as the flashy one-note players.
He’s now stepping into 2020 with fresh music and is etching towards his highly anticipated EP ‘Kongo Kane’ set to release on the 28th Feb. The 5‑track EP, produced by Channing “Rekkzone” Anderson showcases Keynes in phenomenal form, the title also serving as a new nickname (and a way for people to say his name right). Kane demonstrates a lyricsm far beyond his years, inventive flows and introspective bars — this is Keynes Woods on a completely different level.
