NEW MUSIC | ASH SHAKUR SHARES HORROR MOVIE INSPIRED JAM ‘HORROR FLICK’

Illus­trat­or and exper­i­ment­al hip hop artist Ash Shak­ur has just dropped his latest jam ‘Hor­ror Flick’. Already known for his play­ful and unortho­dox out­put, ‘Hor­ror Flick’ shows Ash con­tin­ue this approach, with the elec­tro-alt rap track boast­ing a brave pro­duc­tion full of pitched up vocals, unusu­al key changes and trade­mark bars which are full of nos­tal­gia and uplift­ing motifs.

Ash clev­erly depicts images of trips to the cinema, pay­ing homage to old school hor­ror movies and scary trips to the cinema with your part­ner. It cel­eb­rates those awk­ward moments when as a man you try to not act spooked by a movie when deep down you know you are! Ash explains further:

“The record is full of fantasy, lust and danger. It was really fun to cre­ate this — the concept was cre­ated after a con­ver­sa­tion with my girl­friend about hor­ror movies — she was like ‘no Ash, there’s no way I’m watch­ing this’! I feel as guys when we watch hor­rors it’s just to front. The truth is we’re scared too! So to my fel­las, next time you take your lady to watch a hor­ror flick it’s cool to be a little shook up too haha.”

The south Lon­don­er is known for his left­field take on hip hop, mix­ing witty storytelling with boom bap beats, smooth melod­ies and catchy chor­uses. His unortho­dox style and flow has won fans across the globe. Ash’s pre­vi­ous singles ‘Lead The Way’ (released on Kit­suné Hot Stream), ‘Nev­er Alone’, ‘Nokia’ and ‘Shine’ have cour­ted sup­port from BBC 1Xtra, Noi­sey, Indie Shuffle, Notion and lots more. Ash is also the co-founder of Art Life Cent­ral, a col­lect­ive that expresses cre­ativ­ity and free­dom through music and fash­ion. He aims to inspire people through his vibrant visu­als and incor­por­ates this art dir­ec­tion across all of his music­al content.
