Fol­low­ing on from ‘I Spy, the single that is been on repeat for most people that have heard it, the 15-year-old emcee Oso Wavey Jay keeps the stand­ard very high in long-awaited EP ‘School­boy Jay’. 

After drop­ping the huge ‘Soulja’ earli­er this year which amassed over a 100K views in a mat­ter of days, as well as ‘Get By’ fea­tur­ing UKN­WN cre­at­ing more buzz, the hype around Jay’s name soared. This, along­side a note­worthy Tim & Barry free­style and a Mix­tape Mad­ness ‘Next Up’ on the way, Oso Wavey con­tin­ues to ascend to his spot­light in the UK rap scene, and at such a tender age. His unmatch­able energy, dis­tinct­ive flow and intro­spect­ive lyr­ics at these early stages is a for­mula for great­ness that can’t be overlooked. 

‘I Spy’, pro­duced by the 14-year-old prodigy YK The Plug was the first single off the EP and with a Radio 1 première with Toddla T, proves that the young guns aren’t to be slept on. Arz and Jay, effort­lessly spit over a dreamy instru­ment­al, while subtly com­pet­ing with one anoth­er as the tune goes on. The track was accom­pan­ied by a con­cep­tu­al video, dir­ec­ted and pro­duced by streetwear col­lect­ive The Base­ment it was tinged with subtle anim­a­tions and shows Jay and Arz com­pletely on brand, inside a school where they spend most of their days. 

‘School­boy Jay’ is an impress­ive body of work with Jay using a mix­ture of drill and dream-trap to tell a story of his life as a 15-year-old boy in school. Using sub­ject mat­ters to relate back to the classroom, such as huge tracks like ‘Richter Scale Ulti­mate’ and ‘Long Day’, Jay turns his dull day-to-day school-life into some­thing worth listen­ing to. 

With his pre­vi­ous drops all mak­ing their own impact in such a sat­ur­ated cli­mate, there’s no ques­tion that this EP is set to shake some feath­ers. At just 15 years of age there’s signs of suc­cess that are so prom­ising, sleep on Oso Wavey at your per­il as this is only the beginning.
