X FACTOR STAR DANYL JOHNSON MAKES MUSICAL THEATRE DEBUT ALONGSIDE DARREN DAY AND RUTHIE HENSHALL IN 50TH ANNIVERSARY RUN OF GODSPELL — ONLINE!

Danyl Johnson, formerly of The  X‑factor, has joined a host of West End legends including Darren Day and Ruthie Henshall for a very special 50th anniversary run of Godspell, which will take place between 27th and 29th August – online!

Coronavirus might have brought the curtain down on UK theatre for now, but that won’t stop Godspell from celebrating its landmark birthday! The production will be streaming worldwide for three days in aid of three charities – Hope Mill Theatre, Acting For Others, and National AIDS Trust.

For the first time ever, the production will be filmed from the casts’ homes and edited together with striking visuals.

Danyl was a finalist in X‑factor 2009 and now hosts critically acclaimed podcast ‘Best Thing with Danyl Johnson’ which has featured a string of notable guests including X‑factor winner Ben Haenow and theatre legend Jordan Luke Gage.

Speaking about his upcoming performance he said, “It’s a complete honour to be part of the 50th anniversary of Godspell. The cast is out of this world and everyone has worked so hard to put this show on. Being an online show means that everyone who buys a ticket can watch and enjoy it in the comfort of their own home, knowing that they have raised money for charity as well. Lock-down meant that we were all glued to Netflix, so this is a chance for everybody to watch something new – something which hasn’t, and which won’t be done again. This is my first musical theatre appearance and I can’t wait to see it like everyone else.”

With a driving message of hope and community, Godspell is the acclaimed work of renowned composer Stephen Schwartz (Wicked; Pippin; The Prince of Egypt) which tells a series of parables leading up to the Passion of Christ. To look towards a brighter future post-lockdown, the concert will raise money for wonderful charities: Hope Mill Theatre (A Factory of Creativity CIO), Acting For Others, and National AIDS Trust. Directed by award-winning Michael Strassen (Billy; Assassins), it will be filmed from the cast’s homes and edited together with striking visual animations. It is a revival of Godspell like never before, revamping the show for the modern technological age.

Best Thing with Danyl Johnson is now available for download here. Fans can catch Danyl in Hope Mill Theatre’s production of Godspell online from 27th-29th August. Tickets are available from the theatre’s website.’
