Review: Lemzi (@lemziartist) ‘Autumnal Aura’ EP

lemzi-iahhI came across UK Hip Hop artist, ‘LEMZI’ from Leytonstone, on hearing he has released a new EP entitled, ‘Autumnal Aura’ I decided to check it out. Released on 24th November 2016, it’s a fusion of Hip-Hop, Jazz and blues, containing a mixture of social commentary, introspective ideas with mellow vibes throughout the 5 track plus bonus EP.

Sitting listening to this EP I felt like I was going for a walk in the park mentally, it was a breath of fresh air for the ears. Setting the scene, beginning with a prayer, the mood is set to positivity and gratitude at a point where I was trying to get more in tune with my own spiritual self it spoke to me. The intro, ‘Word Vomit’ (Prod. By The Deli) was upbeat and happy, a collection of thoughts.

‘Across the Pond / Close to Home (Prod. By Nymano)’ has a more chilled out vibe as it touches on the sensitive topic of police brutality and the need for the solidarity of people. Due to the pace of this track, I feel like it echos the commonness of these tragic occurrences so much so it’s part of everyday life, but the same pace also echos the sadness and injustice.  It’s a real wake up call to reality and real issues.

‘Strivers’ (Feat. Tells) (Prod. By Billy the Producer/Genjutsu) another chilled out track, written for the ‘Strivers but also strictly for the Vibers’ to keep alive. Slightly different rhyme pattern, fits the instrumental perfectly. Aspiring for higher things in life, soulful motivation to keep going until we no ‘longer see the light of day’ and the importance of dreams to keep us going.

You 2oo (Interlude by Sadhguru & Brother Rich) (Prod. By K The Infinite) — real talk on love and relationships, delving into how much negativity exists in society but there is not enough focus on love, a true reflection on our current state of society. I really enjoyed the interlude, pure words of wisdom as if the other tracks hadn’t already made you reflect on life then this will.

Importance  — a track which touches on solitude and something which I think many artists can relate to when trying to make their music. Really enjoyed the flow on this. Reminding us that we are all important.

When I was left feeling like I didn’t have enough there was the ‘15ish to spare’ (Feat. Inferno) (Prod. By Adim Prod) bonus final track.

Elegantly  soulful, thought provoking Ep, full of real truths and positive messages.
