REVIEW | ERYKAH BADU LIVE AT THE SOUTHBANK CENTRE LONDON

It was certainly goddess energy in the Southbank centre tonight. I personally have now seen Erykah Badu four times live in concert over the last couple decades.

Tonight was a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the her game changing album Baduism. Erykah’s discography consists of four albums and one mixtape providing us with one of the strongest bodies of work in black music history! Ms Badu has consistently delivered a live show that can rival anyone in Soul music history past or present. Erykah Badu is a groundbreaking artist, a generational talent meandering as a mare mortal (You can tell I’m a fan lol). The full live experience was truly an awesome wonder.

Her attention to detail, the creativity, the bold fashion choices, the confident masterful use of her vocal range, the use of video, lighting, lasers, theatrical movements, how she seamlessly transitioning through her classic catalogue of songs that document an immaculate quarter century career.

The sheer quality of musicians and backing vocalists that accompany her including here daughter who popped in for a quick vocal cameo, even how she commands her band was awe inspiring. We witnessed a Jedi at work.
