NEW MUSIC | EOW BELGIUM — THE ALBUM

End of the Weak, an inter­na­tion­al MC Chal­lenge foun­ded in the USA in the year 2000, found its way to Bel­gi­um in 2014. Since then, Bel­gi­um has been look­ing for “the best” MC in the coun­try, aim­ing to crown a Bel­gian cham­pi­on every year to rep­res­ent at the EOW World Finals.

The pan­dem­ic of 2020 had a ser­i­ous impact, mean­ing little to no live events…and no End of the Weak! Rather than let­ting the time be wasted, the EOW Bel­gi­um crew chose to work on a com­pil­a­tion album. Togeth­er with DJ Grazzhoppa, DJ Pro­ceed — the main organ­iser of End of the Weak Bel­gi­um — went to work to col­lect MCs from the past edi­tions of EOW Belgium’s MC Chal­lenges and get them all on 1 record. With so many MCs enter­ing the com­pet­i­tion over the years, it was decided to only invite EOW Bel­gi­um Cham­pi­ons and final­ists. The pro­ject was recor­ded in 1 day; not every­one approached could attend, but 11 of the finest Bel­gian MC’s made it to the stu­dio.

The final lineup con­tained 6 Flem­ish, 2 Wal­loon, 2 Brus­sels and 1 American/Belgian MC who all laid down rhymes on this “rap” com­pil­a­tion. In DJ Pro­ceed’s own words “On this record we bring out the ‘MC’; the raw­ness of the corona era is the theme, boom bap are the beats”.

All the beats are pro­duced by Grazzhoppa & Pro­ceed but Grazzhoppa (a Bel­gian legend in his own right) is the pro­du­cer, Pro­ceed is the con­sult­ant. Togeth­er they spent hours in the stu­dio com­plet­ing this pro­ject, refin­ing it down to the last detail.

The record has been avail­able to stream every­where since 29/12/2023, but it is also avail­able on vinyl. The vinyl con­tains a bonus track that can­not be heard on the online album, namely the “World Final Cypher”. This cypher was recor­ded dur­ing the 2019 EOW World Final that EOW Bel­gi­um hos­ted in Brus­sels. The 8 nations that par­ti­cip­ated in this world cham­pi­on­ship are rep­res­en­ted on this cypher.
