The Jazz Café, one of the world’s iconic venues, will host its debut festival on Sunday, 15th September. Set across four stages in Burgess Park, Camberwell, the lineup reflects the Jazz Café’s firm grasp of exceptional homegrown and international emerging talent alongside the deep roots in music history.
The Jazz Café’s debut festival, a significant milestone for the three-decade-strong institution, celebrates music, culture, and community and will close out the summer in one of London’s most well-loved and community-driven parks. The one-day affair is a loaded lineup of some of the most exciting and innovative singers, rappers, musicians and DJs from the UK, US, Cuba, the Middle East and more, showcasing the venue’s reputation for programming unique and broad live music events.
This is a rare opportunity to witness these artists perform together on a festival lineup in the UK.
A culmination of cherished Jazz Café performers the venue has dreamt of bringing together for many years and artists that have sold out the venue and gone on to tremendous heights. All genres that make up the Jazz Café’s programming will be prominent — from the most revered names in Hip Hop and Rap, Soul, Jazz, Latin, RnB, and tastemaker electronic from live to classic and contemporary disco and house.
Starting with ELIZA, whose pivot from pop stardom to sultry R’n’B was debuted live to a sold-out Jazz Café audience in 2018. Alchemist, who’s recorded some of the best hip-hop albums in recent memory. South London-raised artist Ojerime has continually impressed with her brand of 90s RnB. Crazy P wrapped up their sold-out 4‑week residency at the Camden venue last month. Rapsody, one of the US’s sacred female rappers, signed to Roc Nation, whose credentials include Erykah Badu and Kendrick Lamar. Rising East London artist dialE who hosted his first headline show at Hoxton’s Courtyard Theatre in February. Girls Can’t DJ founder Jordss, named ‘Queen of R&B edits’ by Boiler Room, is known for playing recognisable favourites with a twist. The Buena Vista All Stars, led by Ibrahim Ferrer Jr, son of the golden-voiced singer and original member of the pioneering group Buena Vista Social Club, are here to channel the spirit of Cuban music like nobody else.
Composer Nils Frahm will close the event on the Main Stage with his only outdoor UK performance of the year, alongside Gilles Peterson, who will headline the In The Round Dance stage and Earl Sweatshirt, who will close out The Plant Room. Culture, travel, and community-driven platform Trippin World will curate the fourth stage, The Dome. Jazz Café fans, through the years, will find something to love.
Above all, the Jazz Café has earned its reputation as a crucial part of the live music landscape and has an unparalleled cultural impact in London. It has been a place to discover the hottest bubbling artists on the cusp of greatness and see world-famous icons on one of the most intimate, grassroots stages. The Jazz Café Festival is here to fuel London with more unforgettable moments, just like its iconic venue has done for 35 years.
