Hip Hop is not just a genre of music but a cul­ture where one spews their anger and oth­er emo­tions using music by pen­ning down lyr­ics. When a lot of people around are con­sum­ing products from smokingth­ings to soak their emo­tions, there is this band of hip hop artists who try to wake people around them with lyr­ics. Sev­er­al ele­ments com­bined res­ults in some of the best hip hop albums ever cre­ated. There are cer­tain things one needs to know about the less­er-known yet one of the best hip hop artists from India, Naezy.

  • Goes the old school way 

When a lot of rap­pers out there, fill in their cup­board with sneak­ers and oth­er fancy stuff, Naezy fills his with pens and note­books. Des­pite the com­ing in of the digit­al age where pen­ning down lyr­ics in mobile phones has become a very nor­mal thing, Naezy still prefers to pen down the lyr­ics on a sheet of paper. The emo­tions that flow from his mind is put down on a piece of paper. When the thought flow gets obstruc­ted, he crumbles the paper and throws it away.

  • Can write from anywhere 

When the oth­er lyr­i­cists gen­er­ally are spe­cif­ic about the set­ting of the place if they wish to pen down a song, Naezy can think of words any­time and any­where. Although he says, one of the most com­fort­able places has been his liv­ing room where he gets to inter­act with the sur­round­ings and meet a whole new set of people and con­nect with their lives on an every­day basis.

  • Single path­way to recognition 

Pun Inten­ded. His single release in the year 2014 named Aafat gave him recog­ni­tion through­out the city of Mum­bai. In the fol­low­ing years, he col­lab­or­ated with Divine to release a song named “Mere Gully Mein” which ulti­mately got included in the album of Gully Boy. The movie made its way to the Oscars nom­in­a­tion for the year 2019. The movie in itself is loosely based on the life of Naezy por­trayed by Ran­veer Singh.

  • Bom­bay 70 

The songs by Naved­Shaikh pop­ularly known as Naezy were used in the doc­u­ment­ary named Bom­bay 70. 70 stands for the Pin­code of Kur­la West where he was born and bought up in a low-income neigh­bour­hood Chawl. This doc­u­ment­ary caught the atten­tion of dir­ect­or Zoy­aAkhtar who decided to make a movie on the lines of this documentary.

  • Social issues cent­ric songs 

As Naezy faced a troubled child­hood, he wanted to pour out his emo­tions via a cre­at­ive plat­form. He men­tions that a lot of injustice, dis­crim­in­a­tion around him forces him to pen more songs in the future as well.

One can see that hip hop is not just about beat­box­ing or diss­ing. There are a whole lot of oth­er deep factors involved in the cre­ation of hip hop music. Hip Hop isn’t meant for enter­tain­ment alone, one can get to learn a whole lot of life les­sons by listen­ing keenly to the lyr­ics of hip hop music.
