Hip Hop is not just a genre of music but a culture where one spews their anger and other emotions using music by penning down lyrics. When a lot of people around are consuming products from smokingthings to soak their emotions, there is this band of hip hop artists who try to wake people around them with lyrics. Several elements combined results in some of the best hip hop albums ever created. There are certain things one needs to know about the lesser-known yet one of the best hip hop artists from India, Naezy.
- Goes the old school way
When a lot of rappers out there, fill in their cupboard with sneakers and other fancy stuff, Naezy fills his with pens and notebooks. Despite the coming in of the digital age where penning down lyrics in mobile phones has become a very normal thing, Naezy still prefers to pen down the lyrics on a sheet of paper. The emotions that flow from his mind is put down on a piece of paper. When the thought flow gets obstructed, he crumbles the paper and throws it away.
- Can write from anywhere
When the other lyricists generally are specific about the setting of the place if they wish to pen down a song, Naezy can think of words anytime and anywhere. Although he says, one of the most comfortable places has been his living room where he gets to interact with the surroundings and meet a whole new set of people and connect with their lives on an everyday basis.
- Single pathway to recognition
Pun Intended. His single release in the year 2014 named Aafat gave him recognition throughout the city of Mumbai. In the following years, he collaborated with Divine to release a song named “Mere Gully Mein” which ultimately got included in the album of Gully Boy. The movie made its way to the Oscars nomination for the year 2019. The movie in itself is loosely based on the life of Naezy portrayed by Ranveer Singh.
- Bombay 70
The songs by NavedShaikh popularly known as Naezy were used in the documentary named Bombay 70. 70 stands for the Pincode of Kurla West where he was born and bought up in a low-income neighbourhood Chawl. This documentary caught the attention of director ZoyaAkhtar who decided to make a movie on the lines of this documentary.
- Social issues centric songs
As Naezy faced a troubled childhood, he wanted to pour out his emotions via a creative platform. He mentions that a lot of injustice, discrimination around him forces him to pen more songs in the future as well.
One can see that hip hop is not just about beatboxing or dissing. There are a whole lot of other deep factors involved in the creation of hip hop music. Hip Hop isn’t meant for entertainment alone, one can get to learn a whole lot of life lessons by listening keenly to the lyrics of hip hop music.
