This That is The Repeat Beat Poet’s first offi­cial rap release, and sees him link­ing up with fel­low Chelms­ford-born emcee SafeNath (also drum­mer for indie-rap out­fit Rat­Boy) for a blis­ter­ing 3 minutes of con­trolled fury. Built on a driv­ing double bass sample This That bal­ances hard­line per­son­al and polit­ic­al raps from RBP with SafeNath’s adren­aline-fuelled rhythm-driv­en rhymes, held togeth­er by a boun­cing hook from the two young emcees.

The Repeat Beat Poet is the ali­as of the Hip Hop artist, poet, and broad­caster, Peter (PJ) deGraft-John­son. PJ pro­duces and hosts the Lon­don spoken word events Pen-Ting and Boom­er­ang which have enjoyed sold out res­id­en­cies at The Poetry Café and Bush Theatre, is a res­id­ent emcee with Hip Hop label and jam night Ima­gin­ary Mil­lions, and is the cre­at­or of the lead­ing Hip Hop/Spoken Word radio show #TheRe­peat­Beat­Broad­cast and host of the the multi-award nom­in­ated Lun­ar Poetry Pod­cast, which is archived in the Brit­ish Library.

He has toured across the UK and inter­na­tion­ally, in music­al, the­at­ric­al, and poet­ic per­form­ances at ven­ues such as The Roy­al Albert Hall, the South­bank Centre, Ron­nie Scot­t’s Jazz Club, at mul­tiple fest­ivals, on pick­et lines. He has also appeared on the BBC 6 Music break­fast show with Lauren Lav­erne, and on mul­tiple BBC Intro­du­cing shows.

PJ has been com­mis­sioned by Amnesty Inter­na­tion­al, com­men­ded for his work by BBC 1Xtra and the Round­house, and was nom­in­ated for a Jer­wood Compton Poetry Fel­low­ship in 2019. He is pub­lished by Bad Betty Press, Magma Poetry, and #PoetryOn­ThePick­et­Line.
