Every 5 years or so, we Brits get to chose from white guy A or white guy B for prime minister. Occasionally white guy C gets his beak in the mix, and the masses enjoy the uproar over the social media water cooler.
This time however, it might be slightly different. This time it’s white woman A vs white man B. Whilst that is only ever-so slightly different on the surface; the stakes we are voting for couldn’t be higher.
The winning party will possess unprecedented power. Britain has formally notified the EU of its impending departure — and the job to rewrite thousands of laws rests with the winning party.
Former EU laws around the cleanliness of our water, rights as workers, cost of living, the future of the NHS, and thousands of other laws will all be up for scrutiny and rewriting. The safety nets and social guarantees we have come to take for granted as citizen’s could come to vanish in a post-Brexit world.
So I speak directly to you, the non-voter. You are a mirror of myself. You do not believe in the system or the power of voting. You are disenfranchised with these professional liars, and rightly so.
However. When else in our lifetime have we, the outsiders, been given a choice of who rewrites the laws for our Britain?
I do not endorse any particular party nor any particular candidate. I do believe, for once, the lesser of two evils, might actually be less evil.
I implore you to register to vote. Do not give them victory so easily.
