TRAILER | “THE UMC’S: STATEN ISLAND’S FORGOTTEN SONS” (DOCUMENTARY)

The UMC’s along with Dream Dif­fer­ent Media and Boo and Sarah Hart­man Evans presents the offi­cial trail­er for “The UMC’s: Staten Island’s For­got­ten Sons” documentary.

The trail­er sets the tone for the upcom­ing doc­u­ment­ary and gives insight into how Haas G and Kool Kim became The UMC’s. The duo became the first rap group to emerge from Staten Island, the first group out of Staten Island to appear and per­form on Soul Train, and the first rap group out of Staten Island to chart on Bill­board with two No 1 hits. As a house­hold name, the world became very famil­i­ar as a poster size ‘Fruits of Nature’ album cov­er was hung onset of the fam­ous TV show Martin.

30 years later and The UMC’s are still men­tioned and dis­cussed as pion­eers who heav­ily impacted and influ­enced Hip Hop and the cul­ture past and present. In one of his recent inter­views, Kanye West shared rush­ing to the store with his allow­ance money to buy the cas­sette tape of ‘Fruits of Nature.’  will.i.am was seen star-struck in an inter­view when he men­tioned being a huge fan of the group.
