The UMC’s along with Dream Different Media and Boo and Sarah Hartman Evans presents the official trailer for “The UMC’s: Staten Island’s Forgotten Sons” documentary.
The trailer sets the tone for the upcoming documentary and gives insight into how Haas G and Kool Kim became The UMC’s. The duo became the first rap group to emerge from Staten Island, the first group out of Staten Island to appear and perform on Soul Train, and the first rap group out of Staten Island to chart on Billboard with two No 1 hits. As a household name, the world became very familiar as a poster size ‘Fruits of Nature’ album cover was hung onset of the famous TV show Martin.
30 years later and The UMC’s are still mentioned and discussed as pioneers who heavily impacted and influenced Hip Hop and the culture past and present. In one of his recent interviews, Kanye West shared rushing to the store with his allowance money to buy the cassette tape of ‘Fruits of Nature.’ will.i.am was seen star-struck in an interview when he mentioned being a huge fan of the group.
