The highly anticipated release of Memphis hip-hop sensation NLE Choppa’s new album, Cottonwood 2, has been making waves in the music industry. The record features the viral hit single “Slut Me Out,” which not only reached #1 on TikTok’s music chart but also broke into the top 10 on US Spotify, accompanied by a risqué remix with St. Louis’ Sexyy Red. With over 5.5 billion global streams, 13 certified RIAA plaques, and a whopping 26 million words read through his NLE Reading Challenge, Choppa has worked tirelessly to become a respected figure in his community. Recently, he participated in a panel and performance at the Grammy Museum’s “Grammy In The Schools” Festival, leading by example and showing young people the importance of living a purpose-filled life.
Choppa’s name has become synonymous with the élite of the rap world, having topped Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart for a record-breaking 24 weeks in 2019, cracked the Billboard 200 top 10 with 2020’s Top Shotta, and secured a spot on last year’s Billboard 21 Under 21 list. Cottonwood 2 is a celebration of growth, following the breakout star’s 2022 mixtape, Me vs. Me, which served as a stepping stone to this moment. The album features nuanced reflections like “The Gender Song” alongside electrifying tracks like “Jumpin” and “Shotta Flow 6,” as well as a collaboration with Lil Wayne on “Ain’t Gonna Answer.”
Choppa’s fiery new single, “Talk Different,” examines how success changes people, set to booming bass and echoing vocals. The accompanying music video is equally provocative, with the young rapper depicted in the finest fashions iced out while riding through the streets of Los Angeles. The album also includes new hits like “Before I” and “All I Know,” as well as previously released favorites “Mo Up Front” and “Champions.” With Cottonwood 2, Choppa continues to level up, delivering one of 2023’s most ambitious and addictive albums.
