Listen Here To ‘Wid It’

We catch up with them to find out more!

Tell us a bit about the OutsideGrindin camp? Who’s involved and how did you all come together?

OutsideGrindin is a independent label and artist management company. Everyone always asks what OutsideGrindin means; the word outside is quite self-explanatory, the word ‘Grindin’ short for grinding is a urban word used a lot by youths in English it means grafting or working. I feel like everyone has to wake up and go to work, whatever it may be. The fact you have to get up every day and go get that money is OutsideGrindin. The camp started with me (Project Jo) and Esswhy who is also an artist, and then we added a few more guys to the camp. Right now, we have 8 really cold artists from ages 14–24. I can’t wait to share their music with the world. I grew up In Dagenham, so a lot of the guys are from Dagenham, East London. They all kind of found their way to me, because they heard about OutsideGrindin and they all wanted to be a part of it.

Tell us about your single ‘WID IT’, who’s on it, and what was the process behind putting it together?

‘WID IT’ has four artists on it: Esswhy, T2LY, R jugg and YungBex. ‘WID IT’ is new age rap/drill type song, it is very catchy, energetic, lyrical, and jumpy. We wanted our first release to be an anthem something everybody will sing along too and dance to. Once the boys heard the beat it was an instant connection, Esswhy came up with the hook with the help of T2LY, I sent the beat to R jugg and Yungbex, I booked a studio session, and it sounded so good hearing it in the studio. The song had to be recorded twice because Yungbex was not feeling well the first time to record so we had to go studio the second time to have the four of them on it. The rest is history.

Tell us a bit about the production on the track?

The beat was produced and mix by buzzin. The song was recorded in Spins Studios who is one of the engineers that we use.

What are your thoughts on the current UK Drill scene?

I believe the UK Drill scene is always going to be controversial because some people believe it adds to the violence on the street, but I believe the drill is evolving and a lot more people from diverse communities are listening to drill and even singing along to every bar. You have rappers like Central C and Digga d who are getting on the UK charts and even becoming international stars, so I believe drill is going to be here for a long time.

There are a lot of negative associations with UK Drill music, how does the OutsideGrindin artists defy that?

I believe there’s always going to be negative association with drill because of the content of the lyrics. With the artist I work with at OutsideGrindin we understand the negative association with drill music, a lot of my artist just love what they do, they see music has a way of expressing themselves and becoming successful as an artist.

What other music are you working on? Can we expect a compilation album from the collective?

Wow where do I start! We have over 100 songs has a collective that’s has been recorded and are really good songs. We have artist from age 14 — 24 some of them rap, some drill, some sing, some do all three, but you can expect a lot of singles and an EP from all of them. We have been talking about a OutsideGrindin Mixtape for a while we just feel like the timing has to be right. So, to answer your question you can definitely be expecting a OutsideGrindin mixtape.

How would you envision the visuals or music video for WID IT to be, if you had one?

Actually, we already have a video for ‘WID IT’. So, we kind of felt that with the first video we want people to see the artist in their zone. So, when we decided to record the ‘WID IT’, the second time we decided to shoot the music video for it in the studio. We had two beautiful girls from ceeceemodels, some drinks, some good studio vibes and you get to see the guys in their element. Is simple but still very enjoyable. You won’t be disappointed.

Can we expect to see you perform anywhere soon?

We just starting to put our music out there, right now we are trying to build the fan base and hopefully near future you should see us performing.
