Soundcrash Presents the live Hip Hop show of the year…

YASIIN BEY PERFORMS CLASSIC MOS DEF

WITH FULL LIVE BAND

THE HYPNOTIC BRASS ENSEMBLE

FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY

14th October — 02 Forum Kentish Town

Yasiin Bey, aka the legendary Mos Def, heads to the O2 Forum this autumn for a true one off: performing much of his acclaimed back catalogue with full live band The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble.

The Hip-Hop show of the year? MOS DEFinitely.

Mos Def really doesn’t need any introduction: Exploding into public consciousness as part of Blackstar (with Talib Kweli) in 1998, it was Mos’ debut ‘Black On Both Sides’ a year later that rocketed the New York rapper to astronomical heights, propelled by universal acclaim for the LP, which continues to be held up as one of the genre’s greatest ever albums.

The near two decades since then has seen an unprecedented output of critically acclaimed work, both as a solo artist and fierce collaborator. Working closely with big hitters from across Hip-Hop including the likes of The Roots, De La Soul, Madlib, Common, DJ Shadow, Kanye West (signing to G.O.O.D Records for a spell) as well as musicians from outside of the rap sphere including Gil Scott Heron, Bobby Womack, The Gorillaz and Robert Glasper (as part of the Mos Def Big Band) amongst countless others, Mos Def has never been shy in sharing his genius with other artists to create something special.

And so onto his collaboration with the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. Made up of the seven sons of the legendary jazz trumpeter and band leader Kehlan Phil Cohran (Earth Wind & Fire, Chaka Khan, Sun Ra) the Cohran brothers form an embarrassingly talented family imbued with the spirit and talent of their father. Over the year’s they’ve been called on to perform and collaborate with the likes of Prince, The Family Stone, Ghostface Killah, Damon Albarn and DOOM, all looking for their unique fusion of classic prog-jazz and modern Hip-Hop sensibilities which when coupled with flash tight musicianship makes for an incendiary live show that has them touted as one of the greatest brass bands in the world.

For one night only see the legendary Hypnotic Brass Ensemble perform with one of rap’s true greats in what will be one of the most talked about Hip-Hop and Jazz events of 2016!
