EVENT| MOVIMIENTOS (@Movimientos) PRESENTS: SOMOS GUERRERAS: REBECA LANE, NAKURY & AUDRY FUNK.

LONDRES

Somos Guerreras was founded in 2014 as a series of workshops, talks and concerts for the empowerment of women in Central American and Mexican hip-hop culture.

In 2016, Somos Guerreras was consolidated as a collective of seasoned artists comprised of rappers Rebeca Lane (Guatemala), Nakury (Costa Rica) and Audry Funk (Mexico). From the beginning, the crew has focused on providing spaces of reflection, honing in on the challenges faced by women in hip-hop to find creative solutions and establish new alliances.

That same year, Somos Guerreras embarked on a 10-city tour starting in Panama and concluding in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. Beyond their performances, spaces for discussion, education and event organizing were also facilitated. Nearly 80 women from the world of hip-hop were interviewed during this tour, the footage and testimonials of which are intended for a future documentary.

In November 2018, the trio of artists toured across eight Mexican cities, and in 2019, a new tour will take them to the United States, with scheduled performances in New York,New Jersey, Chicago and Washington DC. In 2019, Somos Guerreras will also release a collaborative EP, which they will tour in support of during June and July with a series of European performances in Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France and England.
